Hardware Unboxed has released two optimisation videos for improving performance. On the highest setting, grass is visibly rendered to extreme distances, causing a noticeable drop in performance for something that debatably doesn't look very good anyway. This is especially noticeable when running through the jungles of Guarma. I never drop . MSAA also has a huge impact, but you probably should be using TAA/FXAA instead. Rockstar opted to include loads of graphics settings in Red Dead Redemption 2 so that players could tinker with performance and image quality. Short for Temporal Anti-Aliasing, this setting will eliminate jaggies and stair-stepping by sampling previous frames. Set this to Medium, and only increase it if you have all the other settings you prefer configured as you prefer, and there is headroom to boot. Understanding the abundance of graphics settings in Rockstar's new PC port of Red Dead Redemption 2. In the "manage 3D settings section," there are a few important settings to take into account: Low latency, power management, and threaded optimization. Water Physics Quality: if you are somehow well above 60 frames and are fine with your water looking a little more realistic then you can up this setting above the halfway point to simulate as much; though, that final pip to max it is where the hardest performance hit comes, with the max setting suddenly stealing a good ten or more frames to run. Disclaimer: Red Dead Redemption 2 is an insanely large and complex game. Yeah I was surprised at how much better it runs now. Reflection MSAA: Off Geometry Level of Detail: 100% Grass Level of Detail: 80% Tree Quality: High Parallax Occlusion Mapping Quality: Ultra Decal Quality: High Fur Quality: High Tree Tessellation: Off I run those settings at 4K and get on average around 80-90 FPS. TAA sharpening seems to scale better in DX12, by the way. Use the Low or Medium setting to get something close to the Xbox One X version of the game. We recommend using Ultra for all GPUs with at least 6GB VRAM, as the lesser choices drastically affect image quality. This toggle will enable shadows to soften the farther they are rendered from the object that cast them. Triple Buffering introduces a single frame delay to ensure smooth output regardless of frame rate fluctuations below the display refresh rate. Valve Corporation. I couldn't believe the jump from my PS4 Pro to my RTX 2060 at 1440p. i would be more surprised if a AAA game wasn`t vastly superior in a machine like yours tbh. First, lets start with the API. Graphics API: Vulkan or DirectX 12 will require a reset (and it WILL set your screen to windowless for DX12, so if you go back to Vulcan you will need to manually set it back to fullscreen). This has the unfortunate effect of reducing frames by a significant amount, given that there are so many trees in the game's environment. Resolution Scale will be very helpful to players using 4K displays and looking for higher frame rates. Youre better off using TAA or FXAA to remove jaggies, and with AMDs Radeon Image Sharpening or Nvidias new Image Sharpening you can overcome the softer look the game gains under these options, albeit with some shimmering. New to Shacknews? Unlocked Volumetric Raymarch Resolution: this will all depend on your internal resolution: the higher you climb the harder this hits. This guide should give you a good idea as to what will make your PC buck like a wild bronco, and what can be safely turned down without sacrificing the pretty. This determines the resolution of shadows being cast near the player. Near Volumetric Resolution: this needs to be set to Medium if you are trying to free up as many frames as possible. Ultra and High have no massive visual difference, and Medium shadows are not shabby. For that reason, it's recommended that the player turn TT off for a 10-12 fps boost, along with some greater consistency. The visuals just falls apart without AA. When this happens, it's better if the water physics quality isn't maxed out, because doing so will cause a significant drop in performance even on a high-end PC.
